When designing the Residential building, the challenge was having large circulation spaces while also complying with code for wheelchair access with assistance. Each patient bedroom also had to be accessible tothe outside. I came onto this project at the start. It has gone through a series of many revisions with the client. Since the building is one story for wheelchair access, shifting each unit forward helped to break up the large footprint. Each unit also hasa connection point to the other unit for staff to navigate through. The residential building is a great way for family to easily come visit patients since they can spend time in the common areas of the unit.
