PAVILION

To reimagine the scale of a distillery, the pavilion creates a lively space where families and friends of all ages can spend time. My pavilion design was driven to have both an architectural and sensual experience for the customers to encourage social interaction. The tall, curving form creates an energetic sensation to activate the space. I prioritized the customer experience to make the pavilion not solely a bar, but a destination. Visitors explore the pavilion as they move through it, the perforated screens transforming spaces when viewed at new angles. These various levels of visibility produce spaces which suggest public and private areas.

DIAGRAM

Starting with a grid, I used a series of bars transformed through twisting or bending. These transformations allow for spaces to intersect and create layers of visibility and space within the scheme. These twisted and bent bars have different materials to give a sense of public and private spaces. The center bar on the grid was not manipulated and became the piece that is different in the scheme. This center space is highlighted to hold the drink service area. The manipulated bars lean on the center for support which reinforces the center bar.
